Queen Chennabhairadevi and Nadavaru / Nadava / Nador. The Uttara Kannada district was known as Ankola Province before the British rule. Sheila Inscription in the village of Bhavikeri, Ankola was inscribed in the Vijayanagara Empire King Bukkarayana period of 1362 AD, which is said to be the Ankola Nadu region, which was a Vijayanagara period.  Trained Cavalry in Ankola's jamgodi. He was Army Commander of Nadavara Community in Karnataka Coastal  Region Vijayanagar Empire Cavalry. After the fall of the Vijayanagara Empire from the war of 1565, the fort of Ankola was ruled by the Jain Queen of Gerusopa.  During the period the Portuguese invaded the coastal belt and were successfully confronted by Queen Chennabhairadevi of Gerusoppe. After the fall of Vijayanagara, Jain queen Channabhairadevi, Nadavaru originally belonged to the Jain community, Nadavaru joined as a soldiers. And for the loyalty of the Swami, the Jain queen Channabhairadevi made the Nadavaru highest military leader in the Gerusoppe Empire Army.

ರಾಣಿ ಚೆನ್ನಭೈರಾದೇವಿ ಮತ್ತು ನಾಡವರು / ನಾಡವ / ನಾಡೋರ್ .ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷರ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆಗೆ ಮುನ್ನ ಉತ್ತರ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯನ್ನು ಅಂಕೋಲಾ ಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಅಂಕೋಲಾದ ಭಾವಿಕೇರಿ ಗ್ರಾಮದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಶೀಲಾ ಶಾಸನವನ್ನು ವಿಜಯನಗರ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯದ ರಾಜ ಬುಕ್ಕರಾಯನ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ರಿ.ಶ 1362 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆತ್ತಲಾಗಿದೆ, ಇದು ಅಂಕೋಲಾ ನಾಡು ಪ್ರದೇಶ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಇದು ವಿಜಯನಗರ ಕಾಲವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ನಾಡವರು ಅಂಕೋಲಾದ ಜಮಗೋಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಶ್ವದಳಕ್ಕೆ ತರಬೇತಿ ನೀಡಿದರು. ಅವರು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಕರಾವಳಿ ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ವಿಜಯನಗರ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಅಶ್ವದಳದ ನಾಡವರ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಸೇನಾ ಕಮಾಂಡರ್ ಆಗಿದ್ದರು. 1565 ರ ಯುದ್ಧದಿಂದ ವಿಜಯನಗರ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಪತನದ ನಂತರ, ಅಂಕೋಲಾ ಕೋಟೆಯನ್ನು ಗೇರುಸೋಪದ ಜೈನ ರಾಣಿ ಆಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದಳು. ಈ ಅವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪೋರ್ಚುಗೀಸರು ಕರಾವಳಿ ತೀರವನ್ನು ಆಕ್ರಮಿಸಿದರು ಮತ್ತು ಗೆರುಸೊಪ್ಪೆಯ ರಾಣಿ ಚೆನ್ನಭೈರಾದೇವಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿ ಎದುರಿಸಿದರು. ವಿಜಯನಗರದ ಪತನದ ನಂತರ, ಜೈನ ರಾಣಿ ಚನ್ನಭೈರಾದೇವಿ, ನಾಡವರು ಮೂಲತಃ ಜೈನ ಸಮುದಾಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿದವರು, ನಾಡವರು ಸೈನಿಕರಾಗಿ ಸೇರಿಕೊಂಡರು.

Jainism 

Nadavars originally belonged to Jainism or Jain Community. There are Jain temples and Jain wells in the villages where the Nadavars live. In some villages the nadavars worship the(Jain Beera, Jain Jataka, Jain Guttu, Jain Giri and other gods) Jain deities. Nadavars elders in religious activities Dressed like dress Jains, In some cases the priests, of the Jain religion are called for Nadavars Community religious activities.This shows that the Nadavars were.

Numerous Jain articles and other articles still testify that Nadavars belonged to the Jain community.

Jain Nadavaru is a well-educated warrior (Kshatriya) community in North Canara district of Karnataka, India. Their estimated population is 30 thousands. Their literacy rate is almost 100%.

Although they are known as Jain Nadavaru, they were converted to Hinduism between 16th and 18th century. However, still they observe some Jain rituals. A hundred year ago, their marriage rituals were picked from both Jainism and Hinduism. Both Hindu and Jain priests performed the rituals. Now they are vaishnavs, Nadavaru Even today, However, still they observe some Jainism rituals.  

In their villages, we find old Jain temples. Also small temples of Shantala Devi are seen, who was a famous Jain queen of Hoysal dynasty.

They were chieftains during the rule of Rashtrakuts, Hoysals and Vijay Nagar Empire. Until recent past, they were mainly landowners and farmers. Now they are seen various fields of life, especially in education and commerce.

Nadavaru speaks the dialect of Kannada.Called as "Nadava Gannada" language. But their Kannada is somewhat different from the mainstream Kannada. Its morphology is similar to that of Marathi. This fact suggests that in medieval period Nadavarus were Marathi speaking people, probably migrated to their present area from North Karnataka.

They migrated here after fall of Vijay Nagar Empire in 16th century.

Nadavaru Even today, they claim to belong to the Jain community. More research on their past is required. It will throw light on social history of Jain community in Karnataka.
